01 / GETTING STARTED
Your playbook is fifteen questions away.
RecoveryPlaybook is a free tool that turns answers about your business into a printed, step-by-step recovery plan. There is nothing to install, nothing to configure, and nothing to pay for. Here is how it works:
- 1 Sign in with your email through the shared authentication host. No password to remember — the auth host handles it. Your playbooks are stored and belong to you.
- 2 Answer 15 questions about your business: what systems you run, who your contacts are, where backups live, who your vendors are, and what your recovery time goal is.
- 3 Generate your playbook — a formatted document with numbered recovery steps, ready to read on screen, print, or download as HTML.
- 4 Keep it accessible. Print a copy and keep it where you can reach it even when the power is out. Update it when your setup changes.
02 / FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What people usually ask.
-
How do I create a playbook? +
Go to Build Your Playbook and sign in with your email. You will be guided through 15 questions about your business — what systems you run, where backups live, who your emergency contacts and vendors are. When you finish, click "Generate My Playbook" and your plan appears as a formatted document you can print or download.
-
Is this really free? +
Yes. RecoveryPlaybook has a Free tier that lets you sign in, answer 15 questions, and generate one playbook at no charge. No credit card needed. If you need to generate additional playbooks when your business changes, you can upgrade to Pro for a one-time payment of $15. See
-
Can I share my playbook with my team? +
RecoveryPlaybook is designed for a single person using it alone. There are no team features, no sharing links, no invitations, and no way to grant other accounts access to your playbook. If your business has multiple locations or departments, each one needs its own plan created by whoever owns that area. You can, however, print the playbook and hand a copy to a colleague — that is the simplest form of sharing there is.
-
What happens if I lose my printed copy? +
Sign in again at Build Your Playbook. Your playbook is stored in our database and linked to your account. You can view it, re-print it, or download it again whenever you need to. There is no limit to how many times you can access your playbook.
-
Does RecoveryPlaybook actually restore my systems? +
No. RecoveryPlaybook generates a written guide — a set of numbered steps for what to do and who to call when systems are down. It does not connect to any of your systems, run any scripts, execute backups, or monitor anything. Think of it as a well-organised note you prepare in advance so you do not have to remember everything in the moment. The playbook tells you what to do; you and your contacts do it.
-
How long does the whole process take? +
About 10 minutes for most people. Signing in takes seconds. The 15 questions cover business name, industry, number of employees, critical systems, backup location and frequency, emergency contacts, insurance details, vendors, IT support, and a few other items. If you know your business well — and you do — you will move through them quickly.
03 / KNOWN LIMITATIONS
What this tool does not do, honestly stated.
RecoveryPlaybook is a focused tool with a narrow scope. The following are not bugs or missing features — they are deliberate boundaries. If any of these are deal-breakers for your business, the product may not be the right fit.
- No automated recovery. The playbook is a written guide, not a script that runs on your server. Every action is performed by a human reading the steps.
- No integrations. It does not connect to your backup system, email provider, CRM, accounting software, or any other service. The playbook tells you who to call and what order to restore.
- No team or multi-user features. One account, one person. There are no invitations, no shared playbooks, no read-only access for colleagues, and no approval workflows.
- No email notifications or alerts. The fleet has no email sender. The playbook does not send reminders, alerts, or status updates. Keep the printed copy where you can see it.
- No mobile app. The playbook is a printable HTML document. Print it and carry it. It works in a power outage because it is on paper.
- No phone or live chat support. Support is by email only. See the contact section below.
